Genesis 3

Day 3

Genesis 3:11-13
 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”  12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” 13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”  The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”


Something about these verses makes me want to hang my head as a man…  Where was Adam while his wife was being tempted and why was he not being the man God created him to be?   Men have a God-given, unique calling to accept responsibility.


Ephesians 5:23 says, “The husband has authority over his wife just as Christ has authority over the church.”

This does not mean men should lord over their wives.  Not at all!  It does mean the man has the responsibility to protect his wife by standing up for what he knows is right…  Eve originally ate the apple and gave it to Adam, but the Lord addressed Adam when they were both hiding from God.  In verse 9 God addresses Adam and says, “Where are you?”  He did this because God recognized Adam as being responsible for his wife.  Adam was being passive with his responsibilities. 


What does passive mean?
Having no visible reaction to something that should cause a reaction…


Men if someone threatened physical harm to your to your family would you respond passively?  I would hope not!  However our families are constantly under attack…  Our marriages, our children, and the role of a man are all under attack.  The divorce rate among Christians and non-Christians are almost identical…  There are more single parent homes today than at any point in history.  More grandparents are raising their grandchildren than ever before!  Men the responsibility fall back on us as the God ordained leader of or homes and family to protect it…  Adam should have protected his wife from the serpent and stood up for what he knew was right!  Men guard your families they are your responsibility… 
God my prayer is that you would help me become the husband, father, and man you want me to be.  To stand up for what’s right and protect my family and my marriage.  For all men who claim you as Lord to do the same…
