Day 12
Genesis
Genesis 15:5-6
5 He took him outside and said, “Look up at the heavens and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 6 Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
The ultimate question here is, “How Abraham was made right with God…?” Was it through Faith as it says here in (Genesis 15:6) Maybe it was because Abraham obeyed God when he left and went to the land God would show him…? (Genesis 12:1-4)…
Many believers would argue that It is by faith we are made right with God and use scriptures like, “For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” – (Ephesians 2:8, 9)
It’s hard to argue with that… I know right! Does this let of off the hook to say, “Okay I believe in God and His son – guess that makes me right with God. Now I’m going to go live for myself…!”
I believe James tells us the answer to this ageless dilemma in (James 2:21- 24, 26)21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness” and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone… 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
Both faith and works belong TOGETHER not SEPARATE… However let’s not put the horse before the cart… Faith does come before works… I person who tries to come to God through his works before He has faith will fall away and his works will not save him…
